Editing and Rerunning Messages
Refine tasks iteratively with message edits and re-runs
Exponent supports 3 different ways to refine tasks iteratively, helping you to maintain context while exploring different directions without starting over.
- Edit messages when you need to clarify or add detail to your request
- Regenerate responses when Exponent’s answer isn’t quite what you were looking for
- Insert messages when you want to explore a new direction from a specific point
Editing Messages
Say you’ve sent a message to Exponent, it begins working, but you realize you forgot to include some important context.
In this case you can use the Ctrl/Cmd+E
shortcut to edit the message, and then click Send to receive a new response based on your edited message.
When you edit a message, Exponent preserves the conversation history and generates new responses from that point forward. You can always refer back to previous responses which are numbered underneath your message.
Here are some scenarios where you may want to edit a message:
- You need to add details you forgot to include
- You want to refine or clarify your instructions
- You want to try a slightly different approach
Rerunning Messages
If you’d like to see Exponent try again with the same message, you can click the regenerate icon that appears when hovering over any response.
When you regenerate a response, Exponent keeps the conversation history and generates a new response to the same message. You can always refer back to previous responses which are numbered underneath your message.
Inserting Messages
Sometimes you want to continue the conversation from an earlier point, perhaps to ask a follow-up question about a specific part of the conversation. To do so, click the “Add message below” option that appears when hovering over any message from Exponent.
When you insert a message, Exponent preserves the entire conversation history up to that point, creating a new branch in your conversation. You can always refer back to previous responses which are numbered underneath your message.
